Organised crime and local communities

The 11th Oxford Policing Policy Forum considered ‘How does organised crime impact on local communities?’

Organised crime is less well understood than other areas of policing and operations are more secretive, making it difficult to demonstrate its impact at a local level. This is becoming an area of policing for which there is little public clamour to act, consequently organised crime teams are often under-resourced and under-funded, particulary as a consequence of budget cuts.

The Forum address the following issues:

  • Definining organised crime
  • Informing the public
  • Resourcing organised crime teams
  • The impact of Police and Crime Commissioners
  • Partnership approaches
  • Measuring harm
