Independent Commission on Youth Crime

underline

In 2009 The Police Foundation set up an Independent Commission on Youth Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, chaired by Anthony Salz, Vice Chair of Rothschild and funded by the Nuffield Foundation. Members of the Commission include Sir Ken MacDonald, Sir David Varney and Ian McPherson, Chief Constable of Norfolk and the ACPO Business Lead on children and young people.

The Commission has undertaken a comprehensive review of the problem, drawing on existing research and statistics, assessing the current statutory and policy framework of responses to youth crime and anti-social behaviour and investigating the cost-effectiveness of alternative approaches in this country and abroad. It published its findings, including a blueprint for reform in July 2010. The Independent Commission's work and consultation were showcased on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour. Click here to listen to the discussion, featuring John Graham, Director of the Police Foundation.
