In 2003 The Police Foundation, with funding from The Community Fund, commissioned the Institute for Criminal Policy Research, King's College, London, to carry out a study on the Informal Resolution of police complaints. The first phase of the three year study looked at police arrangements for Informal Resolution from the perspectives of those involved in implementing it. The second phase of the research involved collecting data from both complainants and officers complained about. It was carried out in conjunction with the Independent Police Complaints Commission, the independent body responsible for overseeing the new Local Resolution process in police forces across England and Wales. Below you will find more details about the three reports.
In response to the two most recent reports the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has set up a local resolution website for front line officers, staff and members of the public which will enable them to easily access information about the Local Resolution process. To build an interactive website the IPCC welcome feedback on this resource and invites visitors to give their comments.
