The Knowledge Hub: an introduction
The Police Foundation's Knowledge Hub is a source of independent, evidence based knowledge provided through the Police Foundation's website, publications and events.
We believe that it is essential in a healthy democracy to have trusted sources of information and knowledge about key public services. The principal idea behind the Knowledge Hub is to provide a source of objective, high quality and reliable knowledge on policing that is wholly independent of government and the police service. The Knowledge Hub fulfils this task through
- Briefings, providing short, clear authoritative statements on specific aspects of policing
- Cutting-edge Ideas Papers, written by distinguished academics and police officers, which synthesise complex theories and research
- Reports on topical subjects
- Publications and reports published in the last five years - including our highly respected Roadcraft drivers manuals used by police forces across the country
- The Oxford Policing Policy Forum - a discussion forum for a wide range of groups who are concerned with issues in policing
To ensure the success of this exciting new initiative, it is imperative that the Knowledge Hub adds to and improves understanding of policing today and addresses the challenges it faces. Rather than just provide an accumulation of unconnected facts and figures we believe that the information available via the Hub must be placed in its wider context so that it promotes understanding and improves delivery on the ground.
