Thinking Ahead: Future Directions in Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls
We are living through a revolution in attitudes towards sexism and misogyny, and tackling male violence against women and girls (VAWG) has now been made a priority for the police and the criminal justice system. Following the rise of the #metoo movement previously under-reported sexual crimes have been reported in higher numbers. The Government has made halving VAWG over ten years one of its core missions.
This conference looked beyond the current demands on the police to ask what the future challenge of tackling gender-based violence will look like. It explored how some of the trends that are starting to emerge now could shape VAWG in the future. It represented an opportunity for those charged with tackling VAWG to step back from their day-to-day operational work and ask ‘what next?’
