Embracing PCCs: lessons from the past, directions for the future

This paper argues that four years on from the first elections of Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) in 2012 that it is time to embrace the idea of PCCs. As ‘long standing but friendly critics of PCCs’ the authors summarise the lessons learned so far, the changing context in which the 2016 elections will take place and how the role of PCC should develop in the future.
